Jenny Berglund and the Samoyed Kiro
Short intervju with Jenny:
Best with my breed - Why did you choose the breed?
It was not an obvious choice that it became a Samoyed. I have a great interest in ultrarunning and wanted a dog that could run for a long time at a regular pace, be calm and steady in any situation and easy to have with other dogs and children. The dog also needed to be able to be outside for a long time in the winter to fit my winter hobbies. I visited several different kennels and did trial runs with their dogs before I found a breed that suited me - persistent, friendly and easy to train, a Samoyed.
How does the Samoyed fit into your active lifestyle?
I feel I made the right choice. Kiro, my Samoyed is amazing! We do mostly running, but also MTB rides and cross-country skiing. We have just started paddling SUP and he finds it exciting. Kiro was born in the winter and when he was a puppy he had to ride in a bag in front of me on the snowmobile. Now he sits in front of me with a special harness and has his own googles - he loves it! He is brave, we have a good collaboration and trust each other.
What Adventures have you done together?
Sometimes it feels like every day is an
adventure. This weekend we helped to herd reindeer to a new pasture, me on a snowmobile
and Kiro herded the reindeer. We have run the entire Temple Trail three times, canoed
for days and we both like skiing off pist up in the mountains where we have a
cabin. We live close to nature, have no wolfs or bears and that opens up for
easy access to that everyday happiness- sleeping outside, go fishing or just
set up a tent.
The longest adventure was when we went up to Treriksröset, where Norway, Sweden and Finland meet. Then we ran south, through Norway and then the entire Swedish mountain range. It was just over 870 miles and 39 running days. We developed an incredible connection during those weeks, it was just us. The next longer adventure will be this summer when we will run across Norway, it will be fun!
Anything else to add?
Choose the kennel and dog with care, be honest about what suits you. I actually had my eyes on another dog from my breeder, but she was adamant that Kiro was the type that would suit my lifestyle - she was totally right.
