Important and significant people for the breed

Hannie Wink

Hannie is an extremely important person for the preservation of the breed in Europe. She is one of the few (a handful) conformation judges who continue to judge the breed based on deep knowledge and interest in preserving the correct breed type, the older look. Hanni had contact with Mr. Clay before he passed away and learned a lot about the breed from him. Mr. Clay's knowledge was important as he himself learned it directly from the Kilburn family, Scott kennel Farningham, who established large parts of the breed in England and world wide.

Hannie not only judges dogs at shows, but she study the breed in depth and also educate new judges in the true appearance of the breed and the importance of preserving the older breed type in line with the breed standard.

In 2013, Hannie shared many photos and a lot of historical information with other stakeholders in the Samoyed History group and released a press release as follows:

"I have published several photos and I still have a lot more, but I realised now that I never have introduced myself. In 1989 I became my first dog, a Samoyed, Kharasavey Itsjana Tamayova. With her I did obedience, but also I trained her as a sleddog. She hunted after and caught little animals like mice, rabbits and small birds. But also herded cows loud barking together. Together with a friend I trained her for the sled. She liked that too. Three dogs, all three going into the galopp at a different moment. I wanted to learn more about te breed, about its history and about the correct movement. I followed the study "General Cynological Knowledge" (AKK, 1994) and after that a course "Exterior and Movement" (passed examination in 1995). For my study to become a judge I became also information from Mr. Wim Clay. In 2000 I became a FCI Exterior Judge for the Samoyed. I'm also a judge for the Alaska Malamute, Akita Inu and Dutch Shepherd. I have a lot more photos and articles and will try to post every day. It's a wonderful idea to share this with others!"

Mr Wim Clay

Our member Hannie Vink wrote the following about him: Mr. Wim Clay. He was a judge for 50 years. He has known Samoyeds from the age that he was a young man and after the second World War he helped to rebuilt the breed in the Netherlands. He also had contact with Ivy Kilburn Scott. Thanks to him we have still photos and articles from the first years.

Mr Wim Clay has been the most important Samoyed judge in the Netherlands for fifty years. He imported the male Rippleby Davy from England, who, together with Princess Wilhelmina's bitch Ibur Stella, revived post-war breeding in the Netherlands.
