Knowledge and facts should guide our view of the breed

When the group "Samoyed History" was started on the platform FB, it was meant to help spread knowledge and understanding of what type of dog is actually closest to the correct breed type and what the dogs looked like when they came from Siberia. This is to help breeders around the world to be able to preserve the breed in a good way. Without knowledge and a larger amount of historical images, it becomes difficult to know what to strive for in order to do the right thing.
Below is a quote from a member of the FB group that clearly indicates the value of us continuing to present facts and knowledge.
Gen Deltieure 2016: "I just want to say what a terrific site this is! I have owned Samoyeds since 1973 but only saw was was present or imported from England to the USA for many years. That formed my impressions and steered my breeding program. Since this site came into existence & I was able to see Samoyeds from around the world, and most importantly, photos of them as they were in their environment, I have changed my thinking towards breeding them. I am striving to breed them as they were before individual kennels bred for certain traits & preferences. Yes, I have my preferences, but hopefully they are within the variety that occurred in their native land. I can't thank enough all those who shared photos & articles from around the world that I would never have seen before the internet opened up this "world" to all of us!"
Gen Deltieure 2014: "A couple of things came to mind as I watch all the terrific archive films & see more & more photos I have not seen before. The most important is that we have to put our heads together to figure out how we can make happen an International Museum to preserve all these things. Also, an online website that everyone can have access to world wide to see & preserve them as naturally as possible. More important I have come to realize that before I retire from breeding this magnificent breed, I need to go back to breeding them as they were naturally. I love the bigger, wedge-shaped heads with the glorious coats I have had through the British influence (and I will always love the look) but I have come to realize it is truly a man-made trait established by selective breeding. I have two generations that I can say are more like the original dogs but I need to continue to breed them this way despite my preferences for certain traits. We desperately need to share things as most modern breeders only know what they have seen in the show ring & have acquired as their first Samoyeds. The trend to let winning dictate breeding has resulted in some countries in Samoyeds who have more characteristics of Gr. Pyrenees, White Akitas & Gr. Shepherds (& I can show you photos of some show winners from recent years in the USA)."
It is gratifying to hear how an increased dissemination of information contributes to a better understanding of the breed type and breed management. This means that we must never stop spreading knowledge and sharing images and information that are of value. The hope is that even this homepage, P.A.W.A.B, will form a common platform to make it easier for those who want to start their studies about the breed and learn about it. On this website, all information and images from other platforms' groups are collected for a simpler and better overview and access. It is fantastic that we can collect all the material that a few thousand members of our old FB group, Samoyed History, have collected together since 2013 when the group started.
We also hope that this historical archive of knowledge will grow over the years as we receive more information sent to us. Hopefully to the delight of everyone who in some way works with the breed.
